Annual vs single-trip travel insurance

When an annual multi-trip policy can make sense, what trip-length limits to watch, and when a single-trip policy is simpler.

Features, cover levels, exclusions and prices vary by provider. Cover is subject to underwriting and terms. Quotes depend on personal or business circumstances. Always check the provider’s documentation before buying.

One trip versus a year’s worth

Single-trip cover is written for named dates and a destination. Annual multi-trip cover is designed for several trips in a 12-month period, usually with a maximum length per trip. If you only travel once, a single-trip policy is often the more direct match.

Watch the per-trip limit

Annual policies commonly cap each trip at a set number of days. A longer holiday, a cruise or a winter-sports season can fall outside that limit unless you extend it or buy single-trip cover instead. Family definitions, winter sports days and business travel also vary.

Price is not the only test

Adding up several single-trip quotes can cost more than one annual policy if you travel often — or less if you do not. Compare medical limits, cancellation cover and activity exclusions on both types, then request quotes for the trips you actually take.
